Cherokee Co. Considers Floating Homestead

The July 15th Primary Ballot contains a referendum for the purpose of establishing a “floating” homestead exemption.

    I am curious is this will act as an incentive for fixed income retirees to move to Cherokee county. Any thoughts?

    @Mike I think this is a great way to entice retirees to move to Cherokee County. If you will remember, Cherokee County also offers a tax reduction to seniors by removing the school portion of their property taxes.     The combination of School Tax Exemption and a Floating Homestead Exemption should position Cherokee Co as one of the better places to retire in Cherokee County!

    There's also one other benefit to having seniors move to Cherokee:no work commutes = seniors drive less = less traffic

    It's a win for everyone and I encourage voters to approve this bill.

    Creative way to slow the increasing taxation! I wish more municipalities were this forward thinking.
