Maxsell Real Estate: Colbert refers to our local Canton as “crappy Canton”!

  • Carl Martens · 1 year ago
A nice attempt by Mr. Grant to gain some publicity. Sort of like Frank Murtha's attempt at publicity by his offer to Steve Bartman to come and autograph the image of him stealing the ball away from Cubs outfielder Moises Alou keeping the cubs out of the World Series (ask a Cubs fan and they'll say that). Us White Sox fans know the ball was not catchable by Alou!

    I love the analogy Carl.

I really enjoyed this post. It not only made me laugh, but it made some very strong points. Why someone would not want to point out all the wonderful things in Canton, instead of "dare" someone to come is beyond me. I write real estate blogs on a website in Florida. http://www.c21alliancerealty.com/blog we get some pretty entertaining comments down here too! Thanks again for the giggle!

My husband and I watch John Stewart and Colbert just about every night too, but I missed Colbert's "crappy Canton show"...good thing. I don't understand what Bill Grant's intentions were in his response since he handily confirmed the stereotypical southern perspective in his defense of Canton. If Colbert reads that response on camera..which would be hard to pass up, our image is fairly sealed. To try and find some silver lining, however, it might prompt some sitting in influential seats to ponder just why Colbert, a native born neighbor, is so inclined to refer to Canton as "crappy". Perhaps we need to take a second look at our direction. It is still very much an agricultural county with lots of cow pastures and it is true that pig manure is used quite frequently, a challenges for the average suburbanite to adjust too, but Canton is named after a town in China in its failed attempt to establish a silk industry and it is beautiful and populated with some of the kindest people I have ever met. And anyway.... isn't or wasn't South Carolina the landfill capitol of the U.S.? I believe it receives just about every other state's trash on the East coast at least! ;D Perhaps Colbert should have to read a "positive" word of trivia regarding Canton for the duration of the season in the interest of familiarizing his viewership with the diversity and beauty of this proud southern city.

Can the editor FIX THIS ARTICLE? Read the "colbertnation" link posted in this article. BILL GRANT FINDS THIS FUNNY, AND MADE JOKES OF HIS OWN. He responded several times.

For this reason, if this article remains up, "Bill Grant" will seem like a bad guy.

    Bill,
You Say You Were A Fan Up Until This Episode...Im not sure i understand why this would change your opinion...the Colbert Report is political comedy and there are endless cracks on his show refering to many places in our country and around the world...Most of which he has probably never been too...his writers probably came up with the line for him and he thought nothing of it....and neither should you... you have no problem with him saying something about other towns and cities which are probably just as nice a Canton...Which I vist on a regular basis...Really what you need to do is not take comedy so seriously....I calling out him on your internet blog is childish and uncalled for and it just makes you look stupid...

Really I can't believe you the citizens and the mayor of Canton aren't smart enough to just keep your mouths shut and know that anyhting said is just going to be used to further humiliate Canton and the individuals that live there...

Actually, Bill realized it was a "joke." Read the actual link.

Bill made multiple posts, about "crappy people," and said something about uniting forces against Colbert.

What I am trying to say is, though Bill Grant's's first post seemed "angry," he made additional comments such as "you'll pay for this, BWAHAHAHA!." Bill Grant is in on the joke, which makes this article a waste of time.

@commonsense1 There is nothing to fix in this article. These are just my opinions and you have already stated that Bill Grant may have been joking himself (I also provided a link for all to read the entire forum). It is very possible that Bill was joking and intended to be funny. However, it came across in bad way and even frustrated other commenters on the colbernation forum. I just think it would have been better if Bill (especially as spokesperson for the Historic Homeowner's Association) would have been more tactful in his response.

Canton truly is a great place to live and raise a family, but according to you or Bill, Canton is either home to stereotypical rednecks or bad spokespersons with a smartass attitude. Either way, I think it could have been handled better.

    Are you kidding me?

Of course Colbert was making a joke, and your Mr. Grant wrote a really funny response that was very much in the playful spirit of the fun that was being had. It was brilliant, and an excellent representation of the people of Canton having a great sense of humor.

I live in Chicago and we all hope for the day when Colbert will mock us. It's all in good fun, and everyone knows that. I mean, you know Colbert is playing a character, right? You are aware the show is on Comedy Central, right?

    I wish I lived in a "Canton".

    You guys are so lucky.

Kelly, we all enjoyed the humor and we all took part in it. If you think Canton, GA is the place for you, then you should also consider Canton, KS...read more http://maxsell.net/colbert-apologizes-to-canton...
